Remarkable. My mind said Flushing Bay but the news reports are clearly saying Hudson and (for what it's worth) that it was a "controlled crash landing" according to witnesses. News footage clearly shows a fairly intact aircraft mostly above water.

Pretty dramatic video; plane seems to not be sinking, at least not quickly; this is deep water apparently. Coast guard dropping life jackets to passengers. A320.

Close to the Intrepid aircraft carrier museum. My goodness, that water must be cold - about 19 degrees Fahrenheit this afternoon.

It's a US Airways 320. Survivors are reported. All are thought to be off loaded safely.

Seems to be a remarkable job by the crew; fantastic.

Crazy to see if floating down the river.

Pending more information about how they came to land off-airport in the first place, I agree.

Probably from Canada.

PAX reports a loud bang followed by smoke. Cockpit announced to "Prepare for impact."
Evacuation started immediately, Boats picked survivors directly from the aircraft.

FAA saying it was a birdstrike, and reports now of a "Double Birdstrike"

Which would indicate a total or at least partial loss of power to both engines.

Great job to the crew for bringing this aircraft in without causing a loss of life or significant injury, especially in one of the most crowded areas of North America.

FAA: Departed RW 4, and was only airborne for 3 minutes, aircraft initially wanted to go to Teterboro, but obviously unable to make it.

This is the flight tracker. Those things are accurate...it shows the flight ending in the middle of the river.

With today's winds, LGA most likely departing 04 and landing 31 (though it's possible those could be vice-versa). Acknowledging the fact that the crew brought it down in one piece with no apparent loss of life, which is the most important thing, it would be interesting to know if Newark, Teterboro, or even White Plains were possibilities. Of course with the congestion of that area of the world, putting it down in the river without killing anyone on the ground or in the plane may have been the best course of action

Thought a screen shot for posterity would be worthwhile. My favorite part: "Arrived 57 minutes ago!"

The NY Fire Boat appears to be herding the jet toward shore. It's drifting so it's hard to tell.
Kudos to the operators of the ferry boats providing emergency escape routes.

Cable is apparently through the doors and attached to the tug keeping it afloat.

Local news says it was a LGA to SEA flight???
